What is Red Jasper made of?
Jasper, an aggregate of microgranular quartz and/or cryptocrystalline chalcedony and other mineral phases, is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in colour; and rarely blue. The common red colour is due to iron inclusions. These Red Jasper crystals in their rough, natural form are from Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. The colouring of these stones is brick red and there may be some matrix (bed rock) attached.
